Alexander is going to have a birthday party this weekend. He would have had it sooner but two of the friends he wanted to invite were out of town.
To teenage boys, a birthday party is just having a bunch of friends over to play video games and eat junk food. The boys will spend the night, for maximum video game time, so that means they will be here for dinner Friday and breakfast & lunch Saturday. I know from experience that they will most likely stay up all night playing video games, sleep late and grab food right before it is time to leave.
So now the question is - what do you feed 8 teenage boys that is tasty, gluten free, not loaded with sugar and crap and not in your face strange gluten free food? I came up with some ideas and after Alex's final stamp of approval, here is the planned menu:
As of right now, the plan is-
Dinner: Taco/Nacho bar - corn tortillas, hard taco shells, tortilla chips, burrito filling, salsa, lettuce, sour cream, cheese, olives, chopped tomatoes, chopped onion
Brunch: Sausage quiche w/potato crust (really, ground 93/7 turkey with sausage seasoning)
Snacks: Chips & salsa, popcorn
Birthday cake: Homemade ice cream cake
Junk food type snacks will be limited but there will be plenty of fruit that they can help themselves to. (Which of course won't happen, but I can dream, can't I?) Alex has also requested soda, which I am not thrilled about but will allow in limited amounts. Junk food/soda and Alex don't mix well at all and since he has my level of self control I need to police the situation to prevent him from mindlessly eating/drinking himself sick.
Everything on the menu can be prepped ahead, so all I will have to do for the meal is heat up taco shells/tortillas and toss the quiche into the oven.
We are party shopping on Thursday, so I will let you know the final cost.
